A Titusville man struck a man in the head with a shovel, then struck him in the head with a coquina rock during a fight triggered by a dispute over an extension cord, Titusville police reported.
Yoel Matos, 32, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He remains incarcerated on $27,000 bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
The Wednesday fight occurred near El Leoncito Mexican & Cuban Restaurant on South Washington Avenue. Matos and the man got into a confrontation over Matos using an extension cord to work on his boat in his backyard, an arrest affidavit said.
Matos punched the man in the face, and the man placed Matos in a bear hug, the affidavit said. Then Matos armed himself with a shovel, and the man picked up a post-hole digger to defend himself.
Matos swung the shovel — striking the man in the head — and both men began wrestling on the ground, the arrest affidavit said. Then Matos bit the man's middle finger, began striking him in the head with a coquina rock, and said, "Yes, I will kill you."
Matos stopped fighting, and Titusville police said he walked across the street to El Leoncito Mexican & Cuban Restaurant, where he was captured on video tossing the rock into a large trash bin.
The man suffered a black eye, a gouge on top of his head, a bloody finger and leg abrasions. He was treated at Parrish Medical Center
