Brevard County Advances in Selection Process for U.S. Space Command Headquarters

Congressman Bill Posey released the following statement today regarding the U.S. Air Force's announcement that Cape Canaveral, FL has advanced in the selection process for the location of U.S. Space Command Headquarters:

“I’m proud of our delegation’s efforts working together to make the case for Space Command Headquarters to locate in Brevard County, Florida. I'm pleased to see that we have advanced to the next round in the selection process. Brevard’s strategic location and quality of life make it the ideal place for this important national mission to be centered. There’s still more work to do but I’m confident Brevard County has the what it takes to make Space Force a success.”

As command transitions from the Trump administration to the incoming Biden administration, the U.S. Air Force today announced the final six candidate locations to host the U.S. Space Command headquarters.

They include —

• Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico

• Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska

• Patrick Air Force Base, Florida

• Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado

• Port San Antonio, Texas

• Redstone Army Airfield, Alabama

The Air Force said in a statement that each location will be evaluated, which will involve virtual and on-site visits, to determine which location would best serve as the Space Force HQ.

"The assessment will be based on factors related to mission, infrastructure, capacity, community support, and costs to the Department of Defense." The Air Force plans to select the preferred location by early 2021.
